The Truck Loggers Association (TLA) is an advocacy organization seeking a dynamic and
visionary executive director to lead our organization in lobbying government for fair policies
to meet the needs of our members. The executive director will play a key role in shaping the
future of the association by effectively influencing policymakers, ensuring membership
growth, and advancing the interests of forest dependent contractors, suppliers and
communities who depend on a sustainable forest industry.
The executive director is responsible for executing effective advocacy, delivering strategic
leadership, and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Truck Loggers Association
including member services, communications, and financial management. This individual
will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and key stakeholders to further the TLA’s
mission and vision.
This is a full-time permanent position. This is a remote-work position requiring regular
travel to meetings and events throughout the province.
ABOUT US:
The Truck Loggers Association is an influential voice in the forest industry, dedicated to
supporting its sustainability on behalf of nearly 400 member companies across BC. In
1943, the TLA was formed to give independent loggers a collective voice in the policy
changes taking place in the forest industry, and to share information about developing
methods and technologies. Now, the TLA represents independent timber harvesting
contractors, phase contractors, market loggers, independent sawmills, industry suppliers
and forestry resource-dependent communities.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Strategic Direction
• Lead the development and execution of the association’s long-term goals and
strategies.
• Oversee staff and encourage a collaborative, productive work environment.
Advocacy & Government Relations
• Advocate and represent the TLA to all levels of government, industry stakeholders,
and the public, lobbying for policies and regulations that support a sustainable and
viable industry for our members and the communities they live and work in.
• Monitor and communicate relevant industry issues, legislation, and regulatory
changes to members.
Member Services & Engagement
• Develop programs and initiatives to support members’ businesses, networking
opportunities and professional development.
• Engage with industry businesses to grow association membership.
• Respond to member inquiries and concerns, ensuring excellent service and
satisfaction.
Public Relations & Communications
• Serve as the primary spokesperson for the TLA, ensuring the organization’s voice is
heard in industry discussions and the media.
• Working with communications director, oversee communication strategies
including media relations, campaigns, social media and publications to raise
awareness of the TLA’s mission and objectives.
• Write opinion articles for media and Truck LoggerBC magazine.
Financial Management & Sustainability
• Manage the association’s finances including budgeting, financial reporting, and
ensuring fiscal responsibility.
• Ensure the sustainability of the organization through effective membership
development, partnership management, and seeking out opportunities.
Qualifications & Experience:
Experience
• Minimum 5 years of senior leadership experience, preferably within forestry or a
related industry.
• Strong background in government relations or policy advocacy.
• Experience with public speaking and media relations
Skills & Knowledge:
• Strong understanding of the forest industry including regulatory and environmental
issues.
• Excellent leadership, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proven ability to manage budgets, operations, and teams effectively.
• Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and influence policy.
Education:
• A Bachelor’s degree in forestry, political science, business administration,
environmental science, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or other
relevant certifications are an asset.
• Membership in the ABCFP is an asset.
• Forest industry experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree may be considered.
